Visiting Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island

Are you looking for the latest hot spot to visit on Whidbey Island for gorgeous mural admiring or selfie-taking? Are you seeking a beautiful tourist spot for your family to visit on the way to Deception Pass State Park? Then, look no further! Historic downtown Oak Harbor, Washington, has a plethora of beauty and activities for everyone to enjoy. And it’s just a short drive or ferry ride from Seattle.

Oak Harbor is known for so many reasons:

  • Whidbey Island’s largest incorporated city

  • Home to the island’s largest marina and 3,000-year-old Garry Oak trees

  • Having incredible views of Puget Sound, the North Cascades, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Baker, and the Olympic Mountains

It’s no wonder that this charming city continually attracts locals and tourists to its beaches, forests, and intimate downtown that’s filled with shops and restaurants.

In addition to the quaint hotels, restaurants, and beautiful seaside and mountainous views, Oak Harbor is gaining notoriety for being home to some of the most gorgeous murals in the state of Washington. And, nestled right in the heart of downtown is The Allgire Project, the newest hotspot for mural viewing.

Downtown Oak Harbor is beautifully decorated with murals on so many of the buildings. Even our fire hydrants have murals!

Oak Harbor Murals by The Allgire Project

Currently displaying nine stunning murals painted since 2019 (and adding more during the summer of 2021 ), The Allgire Project consists of two adjacent properties in downtown Oak Harbor: 720 and 740 SE Pioneer Way. The properties provide five commercial spaces, an outdoor event space, and the mural gallery.

Desiring a shared space for cultural development, 10 artists contributed to the first of many series of rotating murals that will remain on the walls, each for up to two years. As a result, the murals, spanning thirteen walls, will be replaced with new and fresh murals on a revolving basis, so that tourists can visit over and over again to enjoy new murals every year.

The Allgire Project murals are a great artistic stop for vacationers and tourists to visit while staying in Oak Harbor, biking or driving across Whidbey Island, or when camping at Deception Pass State Park. And the murals are a wonderful opportunity for an adventure in your own backyard for Oak Harbor residents and those living on Whidbey Island or in the Seattle area.

When visiting The Allgire Project murals, take a selfie or an art shot and share your picture with the world. Let everyone see how beautiful and cultural Oak Harbor is so they may admire from afar and add our town to their list of spots to tour or vacation. Of course, we would love for you to tag us on social media @AllgireProject
